Frequently Asked Questions
- Q How is my diamond ring delivered?
- A We use Royal Mail’s registered postal service so your ring is insured in transit. Your ring will be beautifully boxed and wrapped, if requested.
- Q How do I know what ring size to order?
- A If you don’t know the ring size, then contact us and we will send you a ring gauge free of charge and don’t worry if the size isn’t exact, provided your ring can be resized, our on site goldsmiths will always resize your ring free of charge and return within 24 hours.
- Q I’m nervous buying something this expensive online.
- A You’re bound to be nervous especially if it’s your first time. At Prestons of Bolton we have a reputation for fine quality and fair dealing built over 140 years. We are a real bricks and mortar business and thousands of couples have chosen their engagement rings from us. Our standards are the same online as in store and you can always speak to one of our diamond experts during working hours.
- Q Can I insure my diamond ring with you?
- A Yes you can. We sell insurance from the company that insures our business TH March who are specialist insurers for jewellery.
- Q Can I view the online collection in store?
- A Yes you can assuming we’ve not sold the ring you like the previous day. You can always contact us to arrange a mutual time to come in and see the ring you have chosen, and we will put it aside, with no obligation to purchase . Prestons of Bolton are open 7 days a week although Saturdays can be very busy.
- Q How does your pricing compare with other retailers both online and in the high street?
- A We believe that we are more competitive across the board and carefully monitor prices to ensure we keep our edge. What we refuse to do is devalue our brand by inflating margin to allow us to discount the price. The price you see is the price you pay but you can take up to 4 years interest free credit to spread the cost.
- Q Which is the most popular cut?
- A We sell more round brilliant cut diamonds than any other shape but in reality every diamond ring is individual and unique and you choose the cut you like best of all.
- Q Is there an advantage in choosing platinum over white gold?
- A Platinum is a very pure metal, 95% pure. White gold is 75% pure, otherwise known as 18ct gold. Platinum is a very dense metal and so is heavier and stronger that 18ct gold and a purer colour too. To make white gold as white as platinum it is plated with Rhodium, an alloy of platinum, which is standard practise. Over time white gold will begin to look duller, which is why we strongly recommend a platinum setting for your diamond ring.
- Q Who are Prestons of Bolton?
- A We are an independent family owned jewellery business that has traded in Bolton since 1869. For over 140 years generations of families have used us and we have sold diamond engagement rings to couples from all over the UK.
